II

8d71db6b-7085-4d3c-83b7-67b3d7024fdbShadows pasted on my wall

Noises scurry down the hall

I won’t be frightened when they call,

This life doesn’t frighten me at all.

Like mutts we bark aloud,

Pray onto Heaven, knocking on the cloud,

“Gods be not humble, do us proud.”

This life doesn’t frighten me at all.

Remember that we were forced, that we did not choose,

To watch our masters laugh as they reduce

Our freedom to pleas, “cut is loose”

Choking on pleasure, thriving on abuse,

They take your virtue, then you are of no use.

They don’t frighten me at all.

Whips breathing flames,

Masters laughing at the sickening games,

My heart firmly trembling as they call out names.

This doesn’t frighten me at all.

The brave who fight

End up dead, in the dead of the night

Life doesn’t frighten me at all.

Snipers in the park

Strangers in the dark

No, they don’t frighten me at all.

That new hut where

Children pull at my hair

I’m the dolly of a girl

With kinks rather than curls

They don’t frighten me at all.

Don’t show me knives and whips

And listen for my scream,

If I’m afraid at all

It’s only in my dreams.

Life doesn’t frighten me at all

Not at all

Not at all.
